About Brittany

Hi, I’m Brittany Stage (pronounced “Stag,” like the deer)!  I am a counseling intern, pursuing my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Child and Adolescent Counseling.

Outside of being a psychology nerd and counseling student, I’m a pretty bubbly, curious, and slightly quirky person. I love live music, mostly rock (especially Pink Floyd, Palaye Royale, and Ghost), horror movies, Disney, trying new food, makeup, finding interesting things to learn about, and the color purple! I spend most of my time with my person and have a standing monthly dinner with my best friend, who I’ve known since we were nine years old. Those relationships, and the little rituals that come with them, keep me grounded outside of work and school.

I’ve always been fascinated by people and what makes humans tick. I had an early curiosity about astrology and tarot, which were my gateways into psychology. In 2016, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Communication; I wanted to understand why people think, feel, and make meaning of their experiences. That curiosity eventually grew into a passion for mental health and a career working alongside children, adolescents, and families. I’ve spent more than a decade working in mental and behavioral health, much of that time with school-aged children experiencing trauma, anxiety, ADHD, autism, and behavioral or emotional challenges.

As a counselor, I want to create a space where people can show up as themselves. I try to listen not only to what someone is saying, but also to what might be underneath it. I believe that people are the experts on their own experiences and I want to support them in processing and understanding those experiences rather than making assumptions about who someone is or what they “should” be doing.

My approach is primarily humanistic and person-centered, while also drawing on behavioral strategies when practical. As an clinician, I’m interested in integrating a variety of approaches; people are not one-size-fits-all and therapy ought to be the same. While I’m especially comfortable working with children, I’m also eager to work with people of all ages and backgrounds as I continue growing into my own identity as a counselor.

After spending so much of my career in the “observable,” behavioral world, I’m excited to explore more of the “head and heart.” More than anything, I hope the people I work with feel safe enough to be their authentic selves. You don’t have to have the perfect words, know exactly what you need, or have everything figured out before coming to therapy. You can be quiet, talkative, serious, goofy, curious, skeptical, or anything in between, and I’ll meet you there.

I look forward to meeting you!
